Farewell Roxie

October 27 was an eventful day.  It was the birthday of my grandfather, who passed away several years back.  It was also the day my dog Roxie, decided to take a nap and never wake up.

Roxie was old.  She had health issues and was a bit senile, barking at anything and everything.  Although it will be different now that she's again I am somewhat appeased that she is better off.  She's probably with my other dogs who have moved on before her.

My bestfriend once told me that dogs, like all animals, don't have souls and don't really go anywhere after they die.  I don't think that's true.  If there was one thing we truly disagreed on it was this.  I couldn't believe that my God would create such creatures and simply forget them when they passed on.  I'd like to think that my God cared enough to open the gates to heaven and accept all creatures. Yes. Roxie and my other dogs are in heaven. This is what I believe.

Awkward. TV MOMents

I recently came upon a new series to keep my marathon cravings at bay.  That series as you may have already guessed from my blog title is "Awkward.".  I love season one and two and am still waiting for the series to complete its third season before I start watching it.

I love how the series seems to relive how I felt back in college -- falling for a guy who can't seem to admit in public that he likes you.  Which is why I am so into the character Matty Mckibben and the actor playing him, Beau Mirchoff.  I am living and breathing Beau Mirchoff these past few days.  Of course in reality, I didn't end up with my Matty Mckibben, instead I went for his best friend Jake Rosati. No regrets though, in real life my Jake Rosati was waaaay hotter than my real life Matty Mckibben.

But nevertheless, I can't help but drool at the sight of Matty/Beau Mirchoff.  I love him!  I can't wait to watch more of him in Awkward.

On another note, October is here and it can only mean one thing for me --- Season 4 of The Walking Dead is here and I get to see my beloved Daryl Dixon.  So far I have seen the first two episodes of the season and as usual it never fails to disappoint.

My Latest Youtube-iPhone Mishap: Mute iPhone

It's been a while since I last wrote on my blog.  A lot of blog-worthy things have happened but unfortunately I wasn't able to take the time blog about them -- my bad, been instagramming like crazy this past year.

Anyway, I finally decided to write this all down just in case the same thing happened to me again and I forgot what to do.  This blog will be my troubleshooting guide notes of some sort.

So yesterday, I was going through my youtube account looking for entertaining videos to pass my time.  I have my regular subscriptions to channels such as Grav3yardgirl, rhettandlink, as well as Petra Mahalimuyak.  But I remembered seeing this short youtube clip on TV of a girl singing her heart out to P!nk's "Just GIve Me A Reason" (BTW, I love this song right now) so I had to look for it.  With not much effort, I found the video -- and her channel! Genelyn Sandaga.  Let me first say I'm not a hater.  I love her videos, they entertain.  Best put - "Pag masama ang araw mo, panuorin mo ito, at mangiti ka"  I'm not sure where she's from - some part in the Philippines for sure.  Honestly, she's no singer.  She could use voice lessons -- a lot of them.  But what she lacks in talent she makes up for in heart.

But this isn't really the story.

When hubby arrived home last night I had to show him my latest youtube find.  We both went through her videos -- giggled and laughed.  Then as I was loading a third video on my iPhone, it broke.  My iPhone literally lost the ability to produce sound as if to say the previous videos we're so unbearably out of tune that it could no longer function properly.  At first hubby and I started to laugh at the weird coincidence of it all.  Then fear crept in.  I was afraid my iPhone had some software or worse --- hardware problem that couldn't be fixed.  I started calculating how much it would cost etc.  Hubby was quick to try and respring, restart and clean my iPhone.  He was hoping it was just some mild software glitch.  But after several minutes of troubleshooting, cleaning, and wiping down the iPhone, nothing worked.  The sound didn't return.  My iPhone was completely mute.

I had to step away.  Clear my head.  My mind started to wander computing once again the cost of repairs.  Finally, I grabbed my other phone and googled.  I tried to see if anyone had similar experiences and there were several.  I came to several tips.  One was to clean the earphone plug and the cable plug -- the reason behind this was that sometimes they get so dirty that your iPhone thinks its plugged in.  Vaccum it if you have to.  Place the vaccum to high and try to suck up the dirt from the earphone hole and the cable plug hole below.  So I had to see if my iPhone was completely broken -- I plugged in my earphones and lo and behold there was sound -- proving that my iPhone was not completely mute, just dirty.  But hubby already cleaned it and this didn't worked, we didn't have a vaccum nearby so we had to find another solution.

Another tip said if cleaning did not work, try putting in and removing the earphone plug several times -- I guess to push the dirt?  For some this solution worked... But not for me.

Another tip said try to plug in the cable then pull it out.  So I first plugged my charged to the wall socket, then plugged the cable to my iPhone - then and there I heard a prompt "ding" that it was charging.  I then immediately unplugged it from the cable and went to test it.  I went to the music icon to see if my iPhone was making sound... and it did!  It was the weirdest tip, but who cares?!! It worked.

So if anyone out there experiences the same thing -- your iPhone going mute, try these tips and who knows, you may not end up with an expensive paper weight.

A Fateful Day...

I know the title of my blog is delightful adventures in heels but I still felt the need to blog about this even though is not very delightful.

Let me first start off by remembering that fateful day August 21, 1983. I was only a year and a half back then but I remember my mom listening carefully to the radio for news about Ninoy. I really couldnt understand what was happening but even then I had a feeling that that day was an important day. The following days and months after that was a whirlwind with my mom taking me along to rallies and such but my memories of those days were not as clear as that of August 21st 1983. That day we lost a great man. That day we lost Ninoy Aquino.

Fast forward 29 years later, the Filipino people once again are on edge - waiting for news on the whereabouts of DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo, whose plane crashed last Saturday afternoon near Masbate. For days many have been praying that somehow, by miracle, Sec. Robredo is out there alive and safe. Many have praised him to be a good boss, father, and husand and an honest government official - a rarity in our country, which is why many were saddened to hear of his loss.

This morning, at around 9am, it was finally reported that he was found still inside the plane around 180 feet underwater. Although the Filipinos have lost such a great man in him, we finally are thankful for the closure of being able to find him and bring him to rest. Rest in peace Sec. Jesse Robredo, may the Lord welcome you in heaven with his angels.

Goodbye Ninoy! Goodbye Sec. Robredo! They say the good are always taken from us too soon. You both are proof of that.

Blast from the Past

It's been almost 14 years since I graduated from Assumption, though the memories are still fresh like they happened yesterday. Today is the feast of the Assumption and I'm happy to know that most of my schoolmates still remember this day.

Back then we would celebrate the day by having a loooong recess - instead of a 20 minute break we were given an hour to an hour and a half recess! To us students back then, it was like we won the grand prize. Now as adults, we celebrate the day by reliving childhood memories of our alma mater. Here's a photo of my class that was posted on facebook today. I'm sure as the day progresses, I will be seeing more photos from my AA days!

Manila Ocean Park

It was a lazy Monday. The sky was cloudy and it looks like it was about to drizzle. My husband and I decided to take our son to Manila Ocean Park, and my mom also decided to tag along. She would take any opportunity to spend time with her grandson.

We arrived around 4pm, just in time for the sea lion show. When we went there I wasnt really hopeful with the park as a whole, having visited sea world, I know it wouldnt compare. But it was the only park we could take my son to that was worth taking a look at, so we went. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sea lion show -- not bad at all. My son really enjoyed himself and I was totally pleased. The 500 pesos per head fee was totally worth it.

Isn't this little guy just adorable?
The entrance fee for that day was 500 pesos and it included the sea lion show, the jellyfish display, and the oceanarium. We spent almost 3 hours going around and after all that walking my son was pooped out. Good thing we brought his stroller.

All in all it was a good day. We didnt realize that it would be that fun but it was!

Cake Display - Despicable Me Minion

In my previous blog I shared my experience making the Despicable Me Minion cake for my son's first birthday. It was such a great fun experience and I want to share some pictures of how it finally looked on the big day together with the cupcakes which I also made.

Note: Many Thanks to Erwin Buecamino for these wonderful photos.
